Rafael Devers Being Called Up to the Bigs
The Red Sox are calling up their top prospect, Rafael Devers to play third base for the team
The Red Sox announced today that they will call up top prospect, Rafael Devers to play in the series against Seattle. The third base problem needs to be resolved this week and Dave Dombrowski thinks this may be the solution.
The trade deadline is next Monday which means the Sox need to find out who their third baseman is going to be by then. They might have just found who it is going to be. His name is Rafael Devers.. You might have heard of him.
Devers, the Red Sox top prospect was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket just a couple of weeks ago and has been performing pretty well since then.
Devers, in 34 plate appearances with Pawtucket, is hitting .412 with 2 home runs. He has a slugging percentage of .581. He will add some power to the team’s lineup, which they are in desperate need of.
What concerns me is his fielding. I just don’t know if he is ready. He is 20 years old and hasn’t had any big league experience. I just think he may not be ready to play the field in the majors.
Dombrowski said two weeks ago that he wasn’t going to call up Devers because he didn’t want to put too much pressure on the young player. It didn’t take too long for Dave to change his mind.
Devers is expected to start Tuesday, but will be available tomorrow in case the Sox need him.
Could this be the best option for the Sox as the deadline approaches? Or do they try to trade for an experienced third baseman? They have to make a decision this week. Let’s hope Dombrowski and the front office can make the right move for the team.
