It was recently announced that the Red Sox and Yankees have both been ruled out in the race for Japanese superstar, Shoehi Ohtani.

Yankees Report:

Red Sox Report:

Ohtani has made it clear that he intends to play for a small market, West Coast team. The likely choice here is the Seattle Mariners, largely due to the legacy that was left by MLB and Japanese legend, Ichiro Suzuki.

Though Ohtani didn’t have a clear role in Boston, his services would have been a superior upgrade on the mound and in the lineup.

Giancarlo Stanton update

This week, it was also announced that the Red Sox were largely eliminated from the Giancarlo Stanton sweepstakes.

Later, it was announced that both the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants have tentative deals in place with the Marlins for the acquisition of Stanton’s services. Ultimately, Stanton will decide his own fate.

As the Red Sox have been eliminated from both intriguing options, it will be interesting to see how Dave Dombrowski approaches the Winter Meetings.

Additionally, whichever team ends up with Ohtani will receive a valuable asset for years to come.
