Make that seven straight wins for this Boston Red Sox team. The offense we were expecting to see this season finally got going in yesterday’s win over the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox fell behind in the first inning, but they weren’t behind for long.
The Red Sox bats were red-hot right off the start today. Mookie Betts started off the game for the Red Sox offense with a double. Andrew Benintendi drew a walk the at-bat after that and then Hanley Ramirez hit a single to load the bases. It looked like J.D. Martinez could hit a grand slam for his first home run of the season, but that isn’t how it played out. Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to deep right to score one run. Xander Bogaerts came up next and smashed a double to give the Red Sox the lead. Rafael Devers then drove Bogaerts in to give the Red Sox a two-run lead.
The offense was able to keep it up in the second inning. Jake Faria walked the first three batters of the inning to bring up Bogaerts with the bases loaded. Bogaerts worked the count to 3-2 and then hit a bomb way over the Green Monster onto the Mass Pike. It was the first grand slam for the Red Sox since 2016.

Bogaerts has just been on fire so far this season. He ended the day with 2 hits and 6 RBIs. I just am stunned at Xander’s performance this far this season. Right now, Bogey is tied with Didi Gregorious for the MLB lead in extra-base hits. They both have nine.
J.D. Martinez finally got his first home run of the season in the seventh inning of this game. He hit a solo shot over the monster.

Martinez got the silent treatment in the dugout after the home run which was a pretty good laugh.

Rick Porcello had a pretty good outing other than the first inning where he gave up two runs. After that inning, he retired seventeen batters consecutively. He ended the day off with three earned runs, no walks and seven strikeouts. The Red Sox righty is now 2-0 this season.
The Red Sox are back in action tomorrow against the Rays at 1:05 PM ET. Eduardo Rodriguez is scheduled to make his first start of the season, so it will be interesting to see how he will pitch. Let’s hope the boys can keep this streak alive.
Final Score: Red Sox 10, Rays 3
