4/18 Pitcher vs. Hitter Matchups – Game 2 in Anaheim

Here are tonight’s Hitter / Pitcher matchups brought to you by Sox Signatures!

With a win, the Sox could have an astounding record of 15-2…. 13 games above .500 through 17 games. This is now just video game stuff what the collective team is putting together. Last year they didn’t reach mark of 13 games over .500, until in Toronto. For MLB rankings — Sox and Angels are tied for top batting avg, 1 & 2 in Runs scored,  while the Red Sox are at the top with 47 Doubles.

The Angels lead baseball with 26 HRs. After last night’s home run derby, Boston
stands just 7 homers behind.

Here is quite a remarkable stat – Mookie as a leadoff hitter has three 3 HR games as a leadoff hitter, tying Ted Williams for most 3 HR games in a Sox uniform. The legend that is David Ortiz, never had a 3 HR game. That’s baseball for you.

Rick Porcello takes the mound in tonight’s affair. Turning the page from last year’s brutal campaign, Porcello is 3-0 through 3 starts with an 1.83 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .192 off of him, with zero patience to boot (1 walk in 19.2 innings). His WHIP stands at a sparkling 0.76. His career ERA vs Anaheim in 16 starts is at a troubling 5.87, so hopefully that’s not a factor tonight.

Tyler Skaggs of the Angels opposes him. Skaggs has been in the majors off/on since 2012 when he debuted in a D-Backs uniform. Through 2017 his career best in starts sits at just 18, as well as for innings (113). He’s had quite the solid start to the 2018 season. Skaggs currently sits at 2-0 in 3 starts with an 1.69 ERA. But, his last 2 starts, he has walked 6 batters in just 9.2 innings. He’ll have quite the test and then some to face the deadly offense that resides in
Boston.
