Game Recap: Red Sox beat the Rays in series finale

Make that 20 wins in the month of April for this Red Sox team.  This team has yet to be swept this year, so that is pretty impressive (knock on wood).  This team was down most of the game, but the Red Sox were able to escape with a win and end the series with a victory.

This game started off like the past few games have.  The Red Sox found themselves in a hole fairly early.  In the third inning, Porcello gave up a quick single.  Denard Span then came up and smacked a home run to give the Rays a 2-0 lead.  The next inning, Porcello had some more trouble.  After a double, Mallex Smith hit a single to right field that was able to score a run.  This gave the Rays a 3-0 lead.  The next couple innings for Porcello went pretty smoothly.

The Red Sox offense finally got something going in the sixth inning after a pair of singles and a walk to load the bases for J.D. Martinez.  Martinez came up and hit a single to score two runs to cut the lead down to one run.  This was Martinez’s third hit of the day.  He had a huge game and looked really good at the plate.  After another walk, Jackie Bradley Jr. came up and hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Like I said, Porcello looked great after the fourth inning.  He came out for the eighth inning and got two outs.  Alex Cora then decided to put Craig Kimbrel in the game.  Kimbrel was able to get the out in the eighth to give the Red Sox a chance to take the lead in the bottom half of the eighth inning.

Martinez led things off with a single to give him his fourth hit of the game.  After getting two quick outs, Jackie Bradley Jr. drew a walk to bring up Sandy Leon.  Sandy Leon hit an RBI single down the left field line to give the Red Sox a 4-3 lead.

Craig Kimbrel came back out for the ninth and closed the game to give the Red Sox the win.

The Red Sox will be back in action tomorrow night against the Royals.  Eduardo Rodriguez will be on the mound for the Red Sox while Jason Hammel will be on the hill for the Royals..
