After taking 3 out of 4 in Arlington to give them a boost of confidence, the Yankees raging hell on the Sox bullpen has knocked it down. For the first time since the season started, the Sox are not in 1st place. The Yankees are now winners of 17 of their last 18 games, the Sox by comparison are 8-9 in their last 17 games. On a night where Porcello had his first bad start of the season, the Sox fought back and got the lead. Unfortunately for 2nd night in a row, the Sox bullpen couldn’t stem the tide.

Eduardo Rodriguez is on the mound for the Sox. There was a stretch of three starts where  he was looking good, winning all 3 of them. From April 13 to April 25, he gave up just 6 ER in 18.2 innings. Since then? Not good. His last two outings, Eduardo has given up 10 ER in 10 innings while walking 5 batters. The only bright spots are wins in each of those games, and the fact that he struck out 16 batters (10 vs Texas).

CC takes the ball for the Yankees. and the soon to be 38 year old pitcher has clearly drank from the fountain of youth. In 6 starts he has registered a 1.39 ERA…. Only 1 start has CC given up more than 2 ER. That was the April 6th game when the Yankees were a bad team, losing due to a Pedro Alvarez grand slam in the 14th inning. CC didn’t face the Sox in the series last month, which looks like it was a good thing he didn’t. Sabathia had his way with Boston last year

4 starts, 4-0 with a 1.04 ERA — 26 innings, 15 Hits, 3 Runs, 0 HRs, 11 Walks, 18 Ks

The Red Sox batters have to do whatever it takes, even if it’s by the way of multiple bunt attempts for a hit.
