Game Recap: David Price has phenomenal outing

The Red Sox lefty look amazing on Thursday night

This is just the type of start that David Price needed to silence all the haters. Price hadn’t had a stand-out performance before Thursday night’s game and had been struggling on the mound recently. He definitely turned things around on Thursday night. He had, possibly, the best start of his Red Sox career last night.

Last night’s game was just what the team needed and they played like they need to a majority of the time. There are plenty of positives to take away from last night’s win. I am hoping that the team can keep this up the next couple games and build a lead in the division.

David Price looked great in every aspect last night. His pitch control was great. His velocity was right where it needed to be. It was just a really good outing. The Red Sox lefty sailed through the game without getting in much trouble. He went the full length of the game without walking a batter and only gave up five hits. He added eight strikeouts, as well.

The Red Sox offense was also on last night. J.D. Martinez stayed red-hot and smacked a home run in the first inning to give the team an early 2-0 lead. Martinez ended up leaving the game early due to a stomach illness. With last night’s home run, Martinez is now tied for the league lead in home runs with 13 (8 in May).

Xander Bogaerts also homered in last night’s win. In the fifth inning, the Red Sox offense broke the game open. After one run already had scored, there were two runners on for Xander Bogaerts. Bogey crushed a ball over the Monster.

The Athletics couldn’t overcome the six-run deficit. David Price was able to go the rest of the game and get the win.

The Red Sox will be back in action later tonight at Fenway Park against the Orioles. Drew Pomeranz will be on the mound for the Red Sox while Alex Cobb will be on the hill for the Orioles. First pitch will be at 7:10 PM ET.
