The Red Sox have decided to part ways with their veteran first baseman.

This is startling news for Red Sox fans everywhere.
The Red Sox will now have 7 days to either trade, or release, their veteran 1B / DH. Hanley began the year strong, but has apparently fallen out of favor over the last few weeks.
Hanley is hitting a dismal .198 over his last 22 games, but management has clearly seen enough.
The decision will allow the Red Sox to activate Dustin Pedroia from the 10 Day DL in a retroactive move. Most Red Sox fans anticipated a move involving Blake Swihart to free up space; however it is the veteran Hanley that has been selected as the odd man out.
Dave Dombrowski most likely determined that his lack of production is not worth the large price tag that is attached – including a $22,000,000 vesting option for next season. The option kicks in at 1,050 plate appearances and it is clear that they weren’t going to allow that to kick in.
A quiet week certainly just became much, much louder.
