Game Recap: Sandy Leon has big day in Red Sox win

Make that four straight wins for this Red Sox team.  This was a really good team win last night.  The offense got Rick Porcello an early lead and he was able to hold onto that lead and have a great outing.  There was also a little bit of beef in this game which is always interesting.  Overall, it was a great game and an excellent team win.

The offense got to Marco Estrada early in the game yesterday.  Every Red Sox player in the lineup had a hit yesterday.  The bats were just hot, especially for Sandy Leon.  Leon ended the night with two doubles and a dinger.  That’s a pretty impressive day.  Mitch Moreland also continued his hitting streak last night.  Ever since the team DFA’d Hanley Ramirez, Moreland has been on fire which makes the Red Sox look pretty dang smart.

J.D. Martinez is continuing his phenomenal season at the plate.  In last night’s win, Martinez doubled twice.  He has just been great for the Red Sox.  I will admit, I was worried when the Red Sox signed Martinez.  I mean, after all the awful signings the Red Sox have had in the last decade, I had a right to be worried.  But, Martinez is silencing all the haters and is continuing his great season.

On the defensive side of things, Rick Porcello was dealing.  Porcello had been struggling as of late and needed a start like this to get his confidence back.  Porcello lasted six and two thirds, striking out five batters and only allowing two runs.

There isn’t much else that can be said about this Red Sox win.  It was a really good win and hopefully they can play like this in the upcoming series against Houston.  The Red Sox will play in the series finale today at 1:05 PM ET.  They have a chance for the sweep, which is something that hasn’t happened since the team swept the Angels in late April.  Eduardo Rodriguez will be on the mound for the Red Sox.  First pitch will be at 1:05 PM ET.
