5/31 Pitchers vs Hitters Matchups – Game 1 in Houston

While the Yankees start a 4 game series against the eventual 100+ loss Orioles, the Red Sox are starting a series against a potential 100 game winner in the Houston Astros. The Yankees were able to take 2 out of 3 in Yankee Stadium against these Astros. In a 4 game series all I ask, is to split the series at bare minimum. Anything less than that is a let-down in my book. Mookie, unfortunately, is looking like he will sit out for the 5th straight game.

Drew Pomeranz is on the mound for the Red Sox and he has to be looking for any lucky charm to put in his pocket.  Drew Pomeranz’s last couple starts have been awful. At some point, regardless of Pomeranz’s feelings, the Red Sox just might replace him in the rotation. His ERA is at an astoundingly high 6.75, WHIP of 1.88 and opp avg of .311.

Lance McCullers Jr. takes the ball for the Astros. Aside from 2 clunkers this season (7 and 8 ER apiece), he has been a solid starter in their top of the world rotation. The biggest knock on him has been like Eduardo Rodriguez, his durability. Debuting in the majors in 2015, his career high in starts (done twice) is 22 starts. Luckily for Houston, they have plenty of backup if he were to go back on the DL at some point.

Drew Pomeranz — Career vs Houston Astros in 12 games (7 starts), 2-2 with a 3.69 ERA. Career at Minute Maid Park in 8 games (5 starts), 1-2 with a 4.10 ERA.
