6/3 Pitchers vs Hitters Matchups – Series Finale in Houston

After a solid performance by Price and late game heroics by Vazquez & Benny, the Red Sox came away with a much needed statement win. The 40 Win Boston Red Sox remain at a half game behind the Yankees. But with NY getting rained out today, they have a chance to make it a split with Houston and leave town tied for 1st place.

Rick Porcello is on the mound for the Sox, and is starting the 3rd straight highlight pitching matchup between these top 2 teams. Him & Morton are tied for 3rd in baseball (with number of pitchers) for wins in baseball at 7. Max Scherzer, Luis Severino and Corey Kluber are the only pitchers to have more than 7. Porcello is coming off of a solid outing vs the Blue Jays, giving up 3 Runs (2 ER) in 6.2 innings. Overall May was a bad month for him, time to turn the page for June.

Charlie Morton, the third head of Astros’ 3 headed monster, takes the ball for them. Along with his 7 Wins, he carries a 2.26 ERA (9th in MLB). Just like his teammate Verlander, he has had just one bad start this season. That was an April 24th start vs the Angels, where he gave up 4 runs, walking 5 and lasting just 4 innings. The very next start was dominating the Yankees through 7 innings, 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 10 batters. Morton has earned $$ at home, where he is 5-0 with a blistering ERA of 1.85.
