6/19 Pitchers vs Hitters Matchups – Game 1 in Minnesota

As the Red Sox departed Seattle for Minnesota, the Mariners also departed and will be taking on the Yankees in the Bronx. Can only hope they give the Yankees as much fight, as they did with the Sox. The Twins are ranked 11th in the AL in Runs scored and 12th in HRs, but the Seattle Mariners are 9th in Runs and still gave the Sox a run for their money. Sox have the edge in pitching matchups, so the main focus will be the offense doing what they can to keep it going. The Sox tonight look to be the first team in majors to reach 50 Wins!!

Chris Sale takes the mound for the Sox, and for 2 starts in a row has rebounded to the Sale we know & love. In the last 14 innings, he has allowed just 2 ER and striking out 19 batters!! Sale’s 10 career wins vs the Twins ties his mark vs the Royals, for the most career wins against an opponent. Sale faced them last year in 2 starts, going 2-0 with a 3.65 ERA. In those 2 starts he allowed 5 ER in 12.1 innings, and struck out 19.

Jose Berrios takes the ball for the Twins, the 24 year old is in his 3rd season and having the best season thus far in his young career. Through 14 starts, Berrio is 7-5 with a 3.51 ERA. His 91 Ks in 89.2 innings, is a good indicator that he easily blow past last year’s 139 Ks for a new career high. In Berrios’ last 6 starts, he has allowed more than 2 ER just once. That start was a June 1 victory vs the Indians, giving up 4 ER in 6 innings. In that same stretch, the least amount of innings pitched has been 6.

Chris Sale — Career vs Minnesota Twins in 26 games (18 starts), 10-6 with a 4.21 ERA. Career at Target Field in 13 games (9 starts), 5-3 with a 4.60 ERA.
