The Red Sox will be well-represented in this year’s All-Star game.

The All-Star rosters for both the American League and the National League were released on Sunday night.  The AL roster includes five Red Sox players.  Two Red Sox players will also be starting in the game.  Boston is the only team with multiple starters on the All-Star team.

Starters

  • Mookie Betts, OF
  • J.D. Martinez, DH

Bench

  • Chris Sale
  • Mitch Moreland
  • Craig Kimbrel

Andrew Benintendi could also be an All-Star if he can win the “Final Vote”.  With that being said, make sure you #VOTEBENNY.

It’s no surprise that J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts were named starters for the All-Star game.  Both Martinez and Betts have been leading the fan vote for awhile.  Before the season started, not a lot of people would have said Martinez and Betts would be the best 1-2 combo in the majors by the All-Star break, but they certainly are at this point.  It is crazy what the two have been able to accomplish this season.

There’s a pretty good chance that Chris Sale will be starting the All-Star game for the AL.  He has been dominant this season and has been more dominant lately.  I hope to see Sale starting on the bump for the AL team next Tuesday.

Craig Kimbrel was pretty much a lock to be named an All-Star.  He has been great this season and is one of the best relievers in the game.  Kimbrel has 27 saves this season with a 1.98 ERA.  This is the seventh time Kimbrel has been named an All-Star.

The only real surprise of the All-Star selection for the Red Sox is Mitch Moreland.  Moreland has been great this season, but was behind in the fan-vote by quite a lot.  It is no question that Moreland deserves to be on the All-Star team.  I am glad that Moreland was voted on.

Like I said, Andrew Benintendi could still get on the All-Star team through the Final Vote.  Fans can vote for each teams final player.  In the American League , there are five players fans can vote for: Eddie Rosario, Jean Segura, Andrelton Simmons, Giancarlo Stanton and Andrew Benintendi.  Make sure you do your duty as a Red Sox fan and go vote for Benny.
