As Gary Sanchez took his jog, the Red Sox’s lead in the AL East grew to 6 games. It’s remarkable that on July 24, if the Sox go 30-30 in their last 60 games, they would still end up a record of 101-61. But naturally, there’s no way they finish that bad in the next 2+ months. As each day is crossed off the calendar, the Yankees front office will grow more & more impatient as they expect the highest results. The next week is gonna be a fun week to stay on Twitter to see trade updates.

Drew Pomeranz takes the mound for the Red Sox in his return to the rotation. In what could be a showcase for the Sox of “give us a reason to not trade for a starter”, Pomeranz and his 6.81 ERA takes on the lowly Orioles offense. Pomeranz’s season has definitely been a mixed bag. He has made 8 starts in his contract year. Four of them he has allowed 3 ER or less. Ironically his best start of the yr came against the Yankees. Pomeranz gave up 2 ER in 6 innings of work, striking out 6. It was a no decision as the Sox lost 3-2.

Pomeranz has faced the Orioles once the season. In a May 18 loss, he lasted just 4 innings and gave up 4 Runs.

Yefry Ramirez takes the ball for the Orioles, still looking for his first major league Win. Through 5 games (4 starts) he has a 3.09 ERA and has struck out 24 batters in 23.1 innings. With the offense backing him up, it’s not too surprising he’s still looking for his first Win. The Sox & the Yankees are the only teams to have gotten to him for 3 or more runs. Yefry last faced the Sox on June 13, taking the loss in his major league debut.
