The #RedSox today placed LHP Chris Sale on the 10-day disabled list with mild left shoulder inflammation, retroactive to Wednesday, August 15. To fill Sale’s spot on the 25-man roster, the club recalled RHP Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Chris Sale has been placed on the 10-Day DL for the second time this month. This time, it is the same injury that put him on it the first time – left shoulder inflammation.
This could be just a precautionary DL stint. With a 10.5 game lead in the AL East, this certainly would be the right time to rest your ace. Sale was scheduled to start against the Rays on Sunday afternoon, but the Red Sox will have to call up a pitcher to pitch in his place.
In my opinion, this is just to get some extra rest. It is pretty bizarre that this is his second DL stint in 30 days, but hopefully it is just a precautionary action by Alex Cora. I’m sure we will hear more within the next few days.
