After the Sox endured their worst stretch of the season (2-6 in last 8 games), the time is now for the Sox to start off with a clean slate. Treat today as it’s the season opener. Better times are ahead as this wknd the Sox greet returning teammates in the form of Eduardo Rodriguez, Rafael Devers and Christian Vazquez. Before the Sox have a 6 game stretch of playing the Atlanta Braves & Houston Astros, the Sox first play 6 games against the Marlins & White Sox. They are a combined 51 games below .500.

Brian Johnson takes the mound for the Sox in his 11th start of the season. E-Rod is back this week, and Sale is roughly two weeks away. Johnson could be bumped in rotation in favor of Eovaldi. But with Eovaldi scuffling, it would assume to be beneficial to bump Eovaldi and see how he does in relief. Johnson’s last time out was against the Indians. His final stat line showed 4.1 innings, 3 Runs. But important to note that he gave up all 3 Runs in the 1st inning. He kept his team in the game until Cora gave him the hook in the 5th inning. Out of a 5th starter, you’ll take that.

Jose Urena takes the ball for the Marlins. What Urena is most known for nowadays, is brazenly throwing at Braves’ hot hitting rookie Jose Acuna to lead off the game. He got a 6 game suspension for his actions. I can’t even imagine if he were to try to do that with Mookie, and in Fenway Park no less. As much talent that Urena has and having dominating starts, like his recent start being a complete game 1 run effort vs the Nationals…. His ERA sits at a meh 4.50 mark, and only has 108 Ks in 138 innings. Urena’s 2nd half ERA in six starts is 4.91.

Brian Johnson — Career vs Miami Marlins in 1 start, 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA. That start was 1 run given up in 6 innings, walking 2 and striking out 5 batters. Career at Fenway Park in 22 games (9 starts), 3-1 with a 4.24 ERA.
