In what felt like ages, the Red Sox, yesterday, had a pretty comfortable win. Since Price’s dominating performance against the Indians, the following seven games were underwhelming starts by the depleted rotation. Eduardo was nothing but brilliant in his 5.2 innings. he could have gone longer but a hook was understandable with this being his first start back. Brasier followed up 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits but striking out four. His intensity is meant to be showcased in October.

The offense backed up Rodriguez with six runs, with three of the runs coming via the longball. Kinsler had his first homerun in a Sox uniform, and has been getting into a solid groove offensively. Dombrowski wasn’t able to get bullpen help, but he did savvy moves of acquiring Kinsler & Pearce to shore up the offense. Acquiring Kinsler essentially moved Nunez to 3rd base, where he fits better defensively and it seems offensively.

With the Yankees winning their game yesterday afternoon, the lead stayed at 7.5 games. But the magic number dropped to 19.

Brian Johnson takes the mound for the Red Sox in his 12th start of the season. For Johnson starting games this year, he is 4-1 with a 3.51 ERA. He usually tops out at going 5 innings. But it’s obvious when he’s on the mound that he makes sure to limit damage and keep the team in the game. That’s all you can really ask for out of your 5th starter. He has been a better pitcher on the road this season, as opposed to pitching in Fenway.

13 games (4 starts) — (2-2, 3.06 ERA)

32.1 innings, 35 Hits, 13 Runs (11 ER), 4 HRs, 12 Walks, 26 Ks

James Shields takes the ball for the White Sox. While this year has been an improvement from 2017’s marks of 5.23 ERA, 27 HRs in 117 innings, 2018 season hasn’t been all sunshine for “Big Game” Shields. The record is 5-15 to go with a 4.54 ERA. If Shields were to have a bad month of September, he very well could match his career worst Losses of a ridiculous number of 19. That was two years ago, pitching for the Padres and White Sox accompanied with a 5.85 ERA.

Shields last faced the Red Sox last season, taking the loss in a start of 6 innings 4 Runs (3 ER).
