Game Three is a Must-Win Game for the Red Sox

Game 3 is a very crucial game for the Red Sox.

After leaving Boston 1-1, the Red Sox have to win at least one game in the Bronx if they want to keep their World Series hopes alive.  Many fans are saying the series is over and that the Red Sox are finished.  That is an absurd take considering the Red Sox are currently tied 1-1.  However, I will say that the Yankees do have the momentum going into Game 3.  With that all being said, the Red Sox have to win Monday night.

Monday night’s game could very possibly be the biggest game of the season.  The Red Sox have to win — it’s that simple.  If you lose tonight, the Red Sox are put into a must-win scenario on Tuesday night in the Bronx.  To make things worse, C.C. Sabathia would be pitching in that must-win game and C.C. has owned the Red Sox in the past.

The Red Sox are going to have to perform a lot better in Game 3 then they did in Game 2 and even Game 1 if they want to win Game 3.  The bats are going to have to get going early and the pitching has to be pretty much lights-out the whole entire game.

Here are the things that I would say the Red Sox need to do in order to win tonight’s game.

  • The Red Sox will have to get the bats going early.  It is so important in the postseason to score first.  By doing this, you give everyone on your team some confidence, especially your pitcher.  Guys that are not named Martinez or Bogaerts have to step up.  Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi and everyone else have to step up.
  • Nate Eovaldi has to pitch really well.  If he starts out like David Price, the Red Sox are screwed.  Eovaldi is going to have to keep the Yankees in the ballpark and limit the long-ball.  He has to settle in early and find a good rhythm.  If he does that, the Red Sox will be in pretty good shape.
  • The Red Sox defense cannot give the Yankees offense extra outs to work with.  Last night, there were a few defensive errors that costed the Red Sox some runs.  That can’t happen on Monday night.
  • Last night, the Red Sox bullpen was, for the most part, fantastic.  That needs to the case on tonight, as well.  I was really impressed with the bullpen on Saturday night.  Kelly gave the Red Sox a couple fantastic innings after Cora opted to go to the bullpen really early in the game.  Ryan Brasier also looked really good.  We need those guys to pitch the same way tonight.

Those are just four of the main things that I think the Red Sox need to do tonight to win a ballgame.  Like I said, we need a win tonight.  I believe in these guys, but let’s see if they can get it done.
