In case you were unaware, yesterday was the deadline for teams to tender non-guaranteed offers to the arbitration-eligible players on their team. The Red Sox decided to make an offer to Tyler Thornburg before he could hit free agency. Thornburg accepted the one-year deal from the team worth $1.75 million. The deal also includes $400,000 in incentives.
Thornburg was acquired from the Brewers during the 2016 off-season. Thornburg didn’t pitch at all during the 2017 season for the Red Sox, but came back during a brief stint in 2018. The Red Sox are hopeful that Thornburg can pitch a full season in 2019 and pitch to his potential.
