As the former Red Sox DH / 1B is set to retire, it’s important to remember some of his best moments in a Boston uniform.

It was announced over the weekend that former Red Sox player, Mike Napoli, has decided to retire from baseball.

The power hitting Napoli was out of baseball in 2018 after collecting a .193 average in Cleveland during his last official season. He concludes his career with 267 HR’s and 744 RBI’s – a relatively impressive offensive output for a player that began his career behind the plate.

While it was short, Napoli’s playing career in Boston yielded his only World Series championship and he was a huge part of making that happen. Whether it was the huge beard, or the towering homeruns, the Red Sox were a part of Napoli and Napoli will forever be linked to Boston.

In commemorating his retirement, it’s time to relive some of his most exciting moments in a Red Sox uniform.

Napoli Owns the Yankees

Throughout his career, the slugger compiled a .284 / 19 HR’s / 58 RBI’s line against the New York Yankees. This line was one of the highest against any given team, but the damage done while in a Red Sox uniform was impressive as well. During his two full seasons in Boston, Napoli compiled a .375 / 7 HR / 20 RBI’s line in 2013 and a .294 / 4 HR / 8 RBI’s line in 2014.

He repeatedly bludgeoned the Bronx Bombers, and for that, we are eternally grateful.

 2013 ALCS: Nap Delivers!

In Game Three of the ALCS, the Red Sox and Tigers were locked in a pitcher’s dual before Mike Napoli broke a scoreless tie. Detroit’s ace, Justin Verlander, hadn’t allowed a run in his last 21 postseason innings before the Sox touched him for a solo homerun.

This was a pivotal point in the series that pushed the series lead to 2-1 for the Red Sox.

2013 World Series: Napoli Delivers (Again)

As we know, the Red Sox went on to win the World Series in a memorable 2013 season, but it can’t be overlook as to which player started the onslaught.

Mike Napoli was a pioneer in the playoff beard experience and it was exciting to watch him have plenty of big moments in the 2013 World Series.

The Legend of Boylston Street

Throughout the celebration of the World Series title, Napoli was the life of the party. That was no different as he celebrated a championship by wandering around Boston intoxicated. He eventually served at a local bar and enjoyed the company of many Red Sox fans.

It was quite a journey, but we wish Nap the best in whatever is next. He’ll always be a member of Red Sox Nation.
