Week #2 of Spring Training is now over and there have been several storylines this past week. Let’s take a look at some of them:

Jackie Bradley Jr.’s new swing looks pretty good

JBJ is starting this Spring Training off hot. Last Sunday, he showed off his new swing hitting his first home run of the spring. I talked about JBJ’s new swing a little bit last week, but in case you didn’t read it — Bradley Jr. decided that he was going to start working out a little bit differently this offseason and that he was going to change his swing a little bit. I’m not one to look much into Spring Training, but Bradley Jr. is showing some encouraging signs so far.

J.D. Martinez made his Spring Training debut on Saturday

J.D. Martinez made his first appearance of Spring Training yesterday against the Orioles and went 0-for-2. The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey discussed in her latest piece how this Spring Training will be different for Martinez compared to last year’s. J.D. will make appearances in Monday and Tuesday’s game for the Red Sox.

Jenrry Mejia pitched in his first Spring Training game on Thursday

One of the low-risk signings for the Red Sox this winter was the Jenrry Mejia signing. Mejia was banned from baseball back in 2016 for continuing to violate the MLB’s drug policy. He made his way back and the Red Sox are giving him one more chance. Mejia had a pretty nice first outing on Thursday striking three batters out and walking one. Here are a few videos from his appearance:

Red Sox could find a trade partner in the Kansas City Royals

On Friday, the Royals announced that starting catcher Salvador Perez suffered an elbow injury and could possibly need season-ending surgery. The Royals will be looking to add a catcher before the season and the Red Sox are still continuing to shop one of their three catchers. The Royals and Red Sox could possibly make a trade before the season starts. I would guess a deal would include a reliever for the Red Sox, but that’s just speculation on my part.

Bobby Dalbec, Michael Chavis continue to impress

Bobby Dalbec and Michael Chavis are continuing to impress fans this Spring Training by showing off their power. Many fans are already calling for one of them to be on the Opening Day roster, which just isn’t realistic. Sure they are both having really good springs so far, but it’s Spring Training. Like I said earlier, you can’t give it too much thought.

Sox Sphere Episode #16 will be out tomorrow!

Cody and I recorded a podcast Friday night and interviewed Evan Drellich. The episode will be out tomorrow morning. Be sure to watch for that and share it!
