The top prospect in the Red Sox organization is making his presence felt in Spring Training.
Perhaps there is no bigger name in Red Sox Spring Training right now, than Michael Chavis. After accepting his fate last season with an 80 game PED suspension, the infielder has put his past behind him and thrived early this spring.
There were plenty of critics that wanted to point to the PED suspension to explain the power numbers that he accumulated pre-suspension. He launched 31 bombs while earning a promotion to Portland, but the looming question mark would need to be removed by his own play. However, in Spring Training, Chavis has launched four tape-measure blasts en route to being a standout on the reigning World Series champions.
Here’s his blast from Sunday:
Yes, it’s very early in the Spring Training campaign, but the raw power that this young prospect is displaying is undeniable. If he’s able to continue to produce at such a high rate, there may be legitimate talk to move on from Eduardo Nunez in favor of this budding star.
It’s a long shot, especially with the re-signing of World Series hero Steve Pearce, but there’s no question that Michael Chavis will make his Major League debut this season. You can bet on that.
