4/2 Pitchers vs Hitters Matchups: Sale Day, 2nd turn through Rotation

April has just begun and it’s only been five games. Stretches like this happen during the regular season, even for the cream of the crop. It’s only magnified when it happens at the start of the season, and you’re seeing the record: 1-4. It’s Sale Day and the rotation begins their second turn of the 2019 season. Time to flip the page and get a good run going.

Chris Sale takes the mound for the Red Sox. Last week saw him having one of his worst starts in a Sox uniform, lasting just three innings and giving up seven runs (3 HRs). Always a sure thing to bounce back and be pissed off after a bad outing, expect a motivated Sale on the bump. Vazquez will be catching him today.

**Here’s to this being the first game of the season where a Sox starter doesn’t serve up a HR. The top two HR hitting teams in AL, just so happen to be the Mariners and Athletics.

Mike Fiers takes the ball for the Oakland Athletics. Fiers is making his third start of the regular season. He was lit up by the Mariners in Japan for 5 ER in just 3 innings. But he came back on March 28th to fire off six shutout innings vs the Angels. While Sale does his work to mystify the A’s hitters that he has had success against…. the Sox offense will capitalize on Fiers tendency to serve up the long-ball, led by JD Martinez. Fiers has allowed ninety homeruns the past 3 seasons.
