As the Sox continue to search for sustained continuity in the Win dept, they head to the Bronx for a quick two game set with the injury riddled 6-9 Yankees. For the pinstripes, they have an extremely valid excuse for why they’ve stumbled. Almost every day they have a player going on the IL. Luke Voit by the way has been added on. Only six of the twelve position players on active roster, have faced Chris Sale before.

Chris Sale is taking the mound tonight against a team he pretty much has handled throughout his career. His W-L record vs the Yankees doesn’t do his minuscule ERA any justice whatsoever. With the lack of hitters having experience facing him, his success against the team, that should give us reason to be optimistic about him having a good start. On top of that, Sale will be throwing to Sandy Leon today. This being the end result of the shocker breaking news story that Blake Swihart was DFA’d.

Last year Sale faced the Yankees in four games (3 starts) – including ALDS

(3-0, 1.41 ERA)

19.1 innings, 14 Hits, 3 Runs, HR, 27 Ks, 3 Walks

James Paxton, acquired in trade with Seattle this past offseason, takes the ball for the Yankees. Things haven’t gotten off so well with his new team, carrying a 6.00 ERA in his first three starts as a Yankee. And after his last start, he admitted that he was putting too much pressure on himself… well your next start is against the team’s most hated rival, so no pressure right?

The question for tonight is, will Paxton take care of the Sox lineup that has struggled against starting pitchers in 2019? Or will the lineup suddenly come to life, when they realize what they’re capable of?
