4/20 Pitchers vs Hitters Matchups: First Series Win of 2019?

Last night had a solid come from behind win for the Sox, with promising signs that Mookie is coming around. After Mookie smoked a double to left field, his next AB was a homerun and he was pumping his fists around the basepaths. Not good for opposing pitchers to see. Tonight the Sox look for a two game winning streak (only done once before), and for the first time can win a season series. To do it against the 1st place Rays would make it even sweeter.

This morning the Red Sox and Sox fans got unwelcome news that Eovaldi is being placed on the IL. Even more frustrating because he’s coming off a six inning performance vs the Yankees where he was in line for the win. The term is “loose body” in his elbow. The timetable to return is unknown, and loose body can lead to other problems or even surgery. Bobby Poyner takes Eovaldi’s spot on the roster, with Hector Velazquez lined up for at least two more starts.

Rick Porcello looks to turn things around in his fourth start, just searching for an answer.

(0-3, 11.12 ERA)

11.1 innings, 22 Hits (.415 avg), 19 Runs (14 ER), 3 HRs, 10 Ks, 12 Walks

No doubt he will probably have Leon behind the plate, to see if that ups his comfort level. Another factor is that through 28 career starts, Ricky Raindrops has had his fair share of success when facing the Rays. And in that time has only allowed 15 HRs in 181.1 innings.

Former Astro, Charlie Morton takes the ball for the Rays. Through his first four starts in a Rays uniform, he has been a great signing for Tampa.

(2-0, 2.18 ERA)

20.2 innings, 14 Hits (.194 avg), 5 Runs, 1 HR, 25 Ks, 10 Walks

Because “baseball”, his first start of the season actually came against the Astros. That start was a win as he gave up 2 ER in five innings, striking out eight batters. While he can be a stingy pitcher to face, optimistically hoping that the Sox offense is getting motivated to go on a torrent run going forward.
