Red Sox 15, White Sox 2: Red Sox offense explodes in win over Chicago

That was fun. Let’s try that again tomorrow.

To say that this Red Sox team needed this would be an understatement. Sure the team was able to pick up a win last night, but to have a night like this – where everyone in the order is hitting – is huge for a team’s confidence.

I thought that we were going to be in for a long night after Eduardo Rodriguez’s first inning, but he was able to settle in the rest of his start. However, it helps when your team puts up a nine-spot for you early.

The Red Sox offense was pretty quiet the first couple of innings, but things changed in the third. Two quick outs were recorded then Christian Vazquez started things off with a single followed by an Andrew Benintendi single. After the pair of singles, Mookie Betts hit a double to score Vazquez and Benintendi. J.D. Martinez came up and hit a double of his own to score Betts. Xander Bogaerts followed that up with a solo shot. Then Michael Chavis hit his first home run of the night. Rafael Devers then ripped a double and Steve Pearce singled. Eduardo Nunez hit a three-run bomb to put the Red Sox up 9-1. What an inning.

The following inning, two Red Sox batters reached base quickly and Michael Chavis hit in one run. A few singles and an Andrew Benintendi double put some more runs on the board for the Red Sox. In the fifth inning, Michael Chavis went yard again. This kid has been unreal to start off his major league career. He has certainly jump-started this Red Sox offense.

For the most part, things were silent for the rest of the night. Tyler Thornburg came out of the bullpen for the seventh and eighth inning, but allowed one home run off of Jose Abreu. Hector Velazquez then came in to close the ninth.

I am all for the Red Sox playing that way tomorrow in their series finale against the White Sox. Rick Porcello will be on the rubber with a series win up for grabs. First pitch is set for 2:10 PM ET.
