After the Yankees completed a sweep of the Sox in a two game set, the Sox were 6-13. Articles started to pop up about what players might be traded at trade deadline, with Mookie being pictured. Since then? The Sox have gone on a torrid 16-6 pace. Back on April 18th, Tampa held an 8.5 game advantage over Boston. Those Sox now stand just three games behind Rays.
In the month of May, the Red Sox are tied for 1st in MLB in Runs scored (86), and hold the sixth best ERA (2.78). The Twins are the only team in the AL to have a lower mark this month. How times have changed.
Chris Sale takes the mound for the Sox, looking for his second Win of the season. Albeit the team still won, but Sale was heavily denied of a W his last time out. He flat out dominated the Orioles over eight innings, allowing just one run and amassing fourteen strikeouts. The hits unfortunately didn’t come during his time out on the mound. Eduardo Rodriguez meanwhile in his last two starts, has gotten 29 Runs of support.
Sale has been rolling in his last four starts, allowing more than two runs just once.
(1-1, 2.42 ERA)
26 innings, 15 Hits, 7 Runs, 2 HRs, 42 Ks, 6 Walks
Kyle Freeland takes the ball for the Rockies. The 25-year old lefty has had a bit of a setback in the 2019 season, posting an ugly 5.84 ERA. Last season was a complete different story, as he registered a 2.85 ERA across 33 starts (202.1 innings, 173 Ks). Fingers crossed that the 2018 Freeland doesn’t reappear today with Sale on the bump. A positive is that he is currently on course to set a new career high in HRs given up — 34 HRS given up in 2017-2018, on course for 36 HRs this season.
