The Red Sox will be without their All Star DH for another game.

It appears that J.D. Martinez will be absent for the second game of the series in Toronto. While early speculation indicated that there may be an injury at play, it was later discovered that the feared hitter has been sidelined with an illness.

Where one door closes, another opens, as is the case for struggling World Series MVP, Steve Pearce. One season after being on top of the baseball world, the journeyman has posted a .130 batting average, slugging .174, and driving in a mere 5 runs. However, he’s been given extensive duty to get back on track due to facing a couple of left-handed arms and the absence of Martinez.

It’s not clear that Pearce’s roster spot is in jeopardy, but in order to rid and sense of speculation, the reigning World Series MVP will look to find sustained success at the plate.

Silence the alarms, Red Sox fans. J.D. Martinez is merely missing action due to an illness. Meanwhile, the Sox will look to win their third straight game while facing Marcus Stroman and the Blue Jays.
