“Because baseball”, the Sox lost the starts made by Sale & Price, then went on to win the finale that was Justin Verlander vs Eduardo Rodriguez. It was a much needed one, as the four game series in the Bronx quickly approaches. Before they square off vs the 1st place pinstripes, they meet up with Tito & his Indians in Fenway for a brief three game homestand.
Rick Porcello takes the mound for the Sox. Looking for his fourth win of the season, Porcello has done what he can in his last two starts (3 ER in 13 innings). But he was denied in both starts for Ws, due to bullpen and offensive struggles. Since allowing 16 Runs in his first two outings of the season, there has been just one start where he has allowed opposing offense to score more than 3 Runs.
This afternoon he faces an Indians lineup that is currently the 2nd worst run scoring offense in the AL. Only the rebuilding Tigers are worse. The same stat rings true for team HRs. Something you probably didn’t expect as we got to Memorial Day this season.
Jefry Rodriguez takes the ball for the Indians. He was included in the Nov trade between the Indians & Nationals, that got Yan Gomes to travel south to our Nation’s capital. His rookie campaign last season in DC wasn’t the best for him as he got hit hard for a 5.71 ERA in 14 games (8 starts). Wearing his new Indian threads, Rodriguez is 1-4 with a 4.08 ERA in his first six starts. But it’s important to note that through his first four starts, he didn’t allow more than 3 ER once.
Rodriguez’s last two starts (A’s, Orioles) has seen him struggle, giving up 9 Runs (8 ER) in just 10.2 innings. Both of those taking place in Cleveland
