After a few days of rest, the Red Sox have sent their veteran first baseman to the Injured List.

It shouldn’t surprise Red Sox fans to hear that Mitch Moreland has been sent to the Injured List. As many have noticed, he’s been dealing with a back injury for a couple of days which has limited his availability.

Moreland has been a key part of any Red Sox success in the early stages of the season, having launched 13 HR’s and collecting 34 RBI’s. A batting average of .228 leaves a little to be desired, but he’s been a mainstay within the Sox batting order throughout this season.

Additionally, the Red Sox have re-called Colten Brewer and added Josh Taylor for the first time this season.

With Moreland’s absence, it will give additional time for Steve Pearce to produce at the dish. He’s been slowly improving, but will need to stay consistent in order to garner routine playing time. Meanwhile, Michael Chavis may get a plethora of reps at first with Brock Holt providing a spark to the Boston Red Sox club.
