For just the second time this season, the Sox are looking to have a five game winning streak going on. Granted it helps to face the Royals in that stretch, but they are major leaguers at the end of the day. A big homestand commences as the Sox take on the Rays and 32-28 Rangers for eight games in a seven day stretch. They can’t settle for anything less than 4-4.

The offense has been rolling in last 4 games (31 Runs), ditto for the starting pitching (minus Weber’s start). With J.D. Martinez needing some days off because of his back spasms and Chavis needing some mental days, Mitch Moreland is being activated off of the IL at the right time.

Rick Porcello takes the mound for the Sox. In his last start, he was roughed up by the Yankees for 5 ER in 4.2 innings. As bad as it was, the bullpen backed him up holding the Yankees offense down… the main problem was that the Sox offense let the Yankees pitching staff off the hook. The bats have looked a lot different since that dreary Fox sports covered night. Porcello has faced the Rays once this season. He took a tough No Decision in an eventual Sox 6-5 win, as he gave up 2 ER in 5.2 innings of work.

Yonny Chirinos takes the ball for the Rays. For the people sick of the “opener” (**Raises hand**), you’re in luck as Chirinos is expected to used a regular starter tonight. This season he is off to a solid start, holding a 6-2 record with a 3.25 ERA. Chirinos has pitched more than five innings, four times thus far. The last time he did it however was May 4th against the Orioles, going all the way to 7.1 innings. With tomorrow being a double header, Cash might be hoping for some length out of him tonight.
