The Sox today look to have the Rays leaving Boston, with a split of the series. But today Cora is trotting out a lineup that you expect to see in March, not June. J.D. Martinez is STILL dealing with back spasms, since leaving Thursday night’s game against the Royals. No clue as to when he will get into a game again, or any idea if he will be placed on the IL. Rafael Devers and Andrew Benintendi are both having days off, against a tough left handed Cy Young winner. Let’s squeak out a W this afternoon.

  1. Mookie Betts CF
  2. Christian Vazquez C
  3. Xander Bogaerts SS
  4. Michael Chavis 1B
  5. Eduardo Nunez 3B
  6. Sam Travis LF
  7. Jackie Bradley Jr CF
  8. Sandy Leon C
  9. Marco Hernandez 2B

Eduardo Rodiguez takes the mound for the Sox. Rodriguez all this season has been the benefactor having the most run support in the rotation. If the offense today busts out yet again, I’m sure an X-Ray would find four leaf clovers and lucky rabbits’ feet in his body. He is coming off a good performance against the Royals, allowing just 2 ER in 5.2 innings.

Out of his twelve starts this season, six of them has seen give up three runs or less. His April 19 start against the Rays wasn’t one of them. In that No Decision, the Rays got to him for 4 Runs (3 ER) in 5.1 innings. While he has a ridiculously high ERA lifetime vs the Rays, he is better against them when pitching at Fenway Park.

Blake Snell takes the ball for the Rays. Following his lights out and well deserved Cy Young Award season (1.89 ERA in 31 starts), Snell in 2019 is 3-5 with a 3.68 ERA. The most alarming stat for him is the Homerun uptick. In the 2016, 2017, and 2018 seasons saw him only allow 5 HRs, 15 HRs, 16 HRs…. this season’s count is already at 9 HRs in just 66 innings pitched. That’s definitely a positive for the Sox, who have hit just ONE homerun against him in a total of 44.2 innings.

Snell against the Red Sox last year, was just domination vs the BEST team in baseball.
