Last night was a loss that defined the 2019 Red Sox to this point:

  1. Ruining a solid Chris Sale start.
  2. Bullpen failing in late innings.
  3. Offense unable to deliver with RISP.
  4. Defensive mishaps.
  5. Baserunning blunders.

The term “it’s still early” can be somewhat relevant to say, they’re only two games back of the 2nd Wild Card…. but we’re now three weeks away from July. Before we know it, the trading deadline will be here. It’s Go Time. The main things that I want to see — the offense needs to do everything that is physically AND mentally possible, to solve their RISP woes — get an outside reliever. They need a legit closer, who knows his role every day that goes by. No current Sox reliever sparks fear in batters.

Darwinson Hernandez takes the mound for the Sox, in his first major league start. The carousel of fifth starter options carries on. Hernandez is temporarily taking Ryan Brasier’s spot, who suddenly left the team due to bereavement. Brian Johnson is expected back this week. Have to gather that he probably will take over the 5th starter spot, until Eovaldi is back.

Hernandez is one of the organization’s top prospects. This season however has seen him struggle for the Portland Sea Dogs.

10 games (9 starts) — (1-4, 5.13 ERA)

40.1 innings, 33 Hits, 28 Runs (23 ER), 2 HRs, 59 Ks, 32 Walks

Ariel Jurado takes the ball for the Rangers. Jurado made his major league debut last season and had a rough go of it, having a 5.93 ERA across 54.2 innings. This season has pretty much been a 180, posting a solid 2.78 ERA in 13 games (4 starts). His last three starts have all been quality starts, allowing just 7 ER in 18.1 innings. Can this recently silent Sox offense (12 Runs in last 5 games), bring out the 2018 version of Jurado?
