The Red Sox have made a few moves prior to today’s game against the Rangers to add some bullpen depth.

After Darwinzon Hernandez’s first career start and after Bobby Poyner gave up five runs in three innings last night, the Red Sox have optioned Hernandez to Portland and Poyner to Pawtucket.

To give the Red Sox bullpen more innings, the team have brought up Josh Smith and Travis Lakins. Smith hasn’t faired well in his time in the majors, neither has Lakins. Smith has a 6.35 ERA in 11 1/3 innings pitched for the Red Sox and Lakins has a 6.43 ERA in seven innings pitched.

It’s safe to say that the team could use a good start out of Rick Porcello today. These short starts where we have to turn the rest of the game over to the bullpen arms are really hurting us.

Reminder: First pitch is at 4:05 PM ET
