The Red Sox’s hottest run of 2019 carried on last night. After Sale had a scuffling start and the Sox offense struggled against Jays’ Thornton, the resurgent lineup battled back from a 5-1 deficit. Featuring clutch ABs by Bogaerts, Beni, JD Martinez, pinch hitting Devers (Hernandez replaced as PR), and late game replacement Christian Vazquez, the Sox offense supplied a thrilling night in Boston.

After finding themselves at 34-34, the team has ripped off eight wins in their last nine games. Before the London trip, the next five games area against the Blue Jays and White Sox. Prime opportunity to make up some ground.

Brian Johnson takes the mound for the Red Sox. Johnson hasn’t had the start to the season he quite imagined. Coupled with a lengthy IL stint, he has pitched just nine innings while registering an ugly 10.00 ERA. He’s best utilized as a long man out of the pen. But the Sox look to him to hold down the fifth starter role, until Eovaldi comes back. His last start came on Sunday, allowing one run in three innings. The last time Johnson has reached five innings, came on Aug 17 vs the Rays (5.2 innings).

Derek Law takes the ball for the Blue Jays, as the opener in today’s afternoon game. The Jays today are implementing a bullpen day, with Law being the opener. The most he has pitched this season is two innings. On the year, he has a 5.16 ERA in 19 games (2 opener starts). This year righties have badgered Law with a .341 avg and 1.89 WHIP.
