In a breakout season, Jarren Duran has officially placed himself among the game’s top prospects with an invite to MLB Futures Game on ALL-Star Weekend in Cleveland

While no member of the Boston Red Sox was voted in by the fans to start in next weekend’s Mid-Summer Classic in Cleveland, the team will be represented in at least one aspect of the weekend festivities. Double-A Portland outfielder, Jarren Duran, has been chosen to represent the club at the 2019 Sirius XM Futures Game. The game is played on the Sunday before the MLB All-Star game and features the biggest and brightest prospects in all of professional baseball.
For Duran, the selection to the Futures game cements his spot as one of the top prospects in all of baseball. His rise through the prospect ranks has been quick and somewhat surprising. Drafted by the Red Sox in the seventh round of the 2018 amateur draft as a senior second baseman out of Long Beach State, Duran immediately showed a premium hit tool. In two stops in class Low-A in 2018, he hit .357 with a .910 OPS. Promoted to Hi-A Salem to start 2019, Duran picked up right where he left off and hit over .400 for the season’s first two months. He was promoted to AA Portland after fifty games in Salem, where he compiled an overall slash line of .387/.456./.998. After a slow start to his AA campaign, he’s rebounded to hit .306 in his last seven games, but still sports a less than impressive .207/.286/.554 line over his first 21 games with the Sea Dogs.
Duran played second base in college, but was moved to center field after being drafted. His body type, instincts, and athleticism play well in the outfield, and scouts think he already grades out as a plus defender in center.
The Sirius XM Futures Game will headline the All Star Sunday festivities on Sunday, July 7th, at 7PM Est
