7/7 Pitchers Vs Hitters Matchups: Price Going for 150th Career Win

Before the All-Star Break commences, the Sox have business to do in the form of completing a sweep of the hapless Detroit Tigers. They also have to rid themselves from a brutal streak by the pitching staff. In the last thirteen games, they have allowed five runs or more in TWELVE of those games. Thankfully coming when the offense is lighting up the scoreboards. Last night Porcello got the W, despite the fact of giving up six runs in 5.2 innings. The last four came in the sixth inning.

David Price takes the mound for the Red Sox, looking for his 150th career Win. Paired with a scorching hot Sox offense, he looks to cap off their road trip at 5-1. His last three starts have been good — 6 Runs (5 ER) in 17 innings. But it would be a huge plus to see him go longer in starts. His last start of reaching seven innings…. April 14th opposing the Orioles.

Gregory Soto takes the ball for the Tigers. His rookie campaign hasn’t gone according to plan thus far:

7 games (6 starts) — (0-2, 8.06 ERA)

22.1 innings, 30 Hits, 20 Runs, 5 HRs, 16 Ks, 12 Walks

In his six starts, the most he has pitched is four innings. And the most success he has had was four shutout innings facing the Indians. With the Break approaching, the Tigers probably won’t mind as much doing a bullpen game today, even with Zimmermann giving them a shorter start than desired.
