The Red Sox are fighting for a playoff spot. Their offense is what is keeping the playoff aspirations alive. The Sox bats reign supreme over all of MLB, having scored 566 runs now after 17 run outburst. The Yankees are 2nd overall with 554 Runs. It was sorely needed last night, with Porcello having another dreadful start. After having a 3.34 ERA in five starts in May, he has been dreadful in the nine starts since then (seven shutout innings vs Twins mixed in). Luckily for him the run support has been so good, that he’s actually been able to scoop up Wins.
June-July (9 starts) – (4-3, 7.26 ERA)
47.1 innings, 67 Hits, 38 Runs, 8 HRs, 36 Ks, 10 Walks
Andrew Cashner takes the mound for the Red Sox. Starting his 2nd game as a Red Sox, Cashner looks to rid himself of his rocky debut in a Sox uniform. He will have to do so, facing the team that traded him away. He noted after battered for 6 Runs (5 ER) in five innings against the Jays, that he was rusty after not pitching for nine days. After his two teammates (Price/Porcello) gave up six runs in five innings apiece, the team asks Cashner for a good start and going longer into the game.
Asher Wojciechowski takes the ball for the Orioles. For article purposes, just gonna refer to him as “Woj”. Now 30 years old, he officially is a career journeyman, appearing in spurts in the 2015, 2017 and now 2019 seasons. In 4 games (3 starts) with the Orioles, he is 0-3 with a 5.74 ERA. His last time out was his best of the season, pitching 5.1 innings & allowing three runs against the Nationals. He struck out a season high seven batters.
Chavis is getting the day off due to back spasms. But the lineup should have more than enough to rough up the Orioles pitching again.
