The highly flying 2019 offense really kicked it into gear last night, as they barraged the Yankees for a record 19 runs against them. The Sox have gone 3-1 thus far in the 14 game stretch against the Rays and Yankees, now finding themselves 0.5 game behind Rays and 1 game behind the A’s for the 2nd Wild Card.

Now tonight, they look to Cashner to have his first good game pitched in a Sox uniform. Before the Red Sox acquired Cashner, he had a hot groove going on in his last five starts.

5 starts (3-1, 1.41 ERA)

32 innings, 19 Hits, 7 Runs (5 ER), 0 HRs, 18 Ks, 4 Walks

And then his first two starts for Boston haven’t gone as planned…. Despite the fact that he has said both times, that he has “kept them in the game”.

2 starts (0-2, 8.18 ERA)

11 innings, 17 Hits, 10 Runs, 4 HRs, 9 Ks, 4 Walks

James Paxton takes the ball for the Yankees, as Boone is looking for a lot more length in tonight’s game than Tanaka’s 3.1 innings last night. Starting his second game of the season vs the Sox, he is hoping to reignite his adrenaline from last time out. By far his best start of the season, Paxton pitched eight shutout two hit innings against them on April 16th. Starting 17 games this season, that has been the ONLY start for him of going past six innings.

Last Saturday the offense scored 17 Runs against the Orioles, and then were shut out the next day vs a career journeyman. Let’s hope they saved some runs for tonight’s bout.
