The Sox did what they had to do. The bats roughed up a pitcher who had an ERA of 7+ in his first taste of being in Triple A, and the pitching (until 8th) held the Rockies offense to just two runs. Tampa’s losing streak reached three games, so a game was gained on them. They remain six games out of the 2nd Wild card (Oakland A’s), and five behind the Rays.

Eduardo Rodriguez takes the mound for the Red Sox. Extending his best season ever, Rodriguez is looking for his 16th Win of the season. Achieving this tonight, really has to make you think if he can finish the season with the heralded “20 Win” mark. Everything is going in his favor. His favorable top run support, and he has been outstanding his last two times out — 14.1 innings, 0 Runs, 9 Hits, 10 Ks, 3 Walks

Peter Lambert takes the ball for the Rockies. His first go around in the majors hasn’t been to his liking thus far. In his first fourteen starts, he has been roughed up with a 6.40 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and already serving up 17 HRs. Quite the tall test for him tonight to quiet the bats that just put up a ten spot off of his teammates. While his manager would love innings out of him, he has only pitched more than six innings just once. That start was his major league debut (June 6th), silencing the Cubs for seven one-run innings.
