It took over five hours, but the Sox overcame a grueling 15 inning game that took over five hours to finish. The Sox bullpen blew another save (assisted by JD Martinez), but thankfully were lights out after. Most notably, Andrew Cashner throwing four shutout innings to nab his 11th victory. He laid a big fat egg as a member of the rotation, but boy oh boy has he been a solid piece of the bullpen.

(0.90 ERA) — 10 innings, 4 Hits, 1 Run, 4 Walks, 7 Ks

The A’s and Rays started their weekend series against the Yankees & Indians, and both of them had the gall to win last night!! But today the A’s lost in a walkoff to NY, so the Sox are currently 4.5 back of the 2nd Wild Card spot…..

In a scheduled bullpen day after a 15 inning affair, Josh Taylor takes the mound for the Red Sox. Back on June 30, Josh Taylor was part of the bullpen problem as he had held a 5.91 ERA as the London Yankees series came to a close. In the 28 relief appearances since then, he has posted a solid 1.99 ERA. Perhaps helped by Cashner throwing the last four innings (and tomorrow being call up day), no moves were made to call up a fresh arm. While Taylor is starting the game as opener, no idea how long he will go. Brian Johnson and Josh Smith were the only Sox relievers that didn’t pitch last night.

Dillon Peters takes the ball for the Angels. Having brief stints as a Marlin in ’17 and ’18, this season has seen more rounded success for Peters in the bigs. After posting ERA’s of 5.17 and 7.16 the last couple seasons, he has posted a respectable 4.11 ERA in 11 games (6 starts). His last time out was the first time that he has given up more than 3 ER. But what the Angels staff need the most out of him is innings. Three of his five starts this month, has seen him pitch at least six innings.
