This seven game stretch against the Twins & Yankees is a do or die stretch…… they lost two out of three, with the two losses both being by one run. They now have 18 one run losses to speak of. Last night stung even more, with Devers being thrown out at home plate to end the game. He was on 3rd base by time the ball was being thrown. With someone like Marco Hernandez, you take that chance. Too many times this season, tehy have reverted back to the dumb aggressiveness as they did under John Farrell.

In his first appearance as a Red Sox, Jhoulys Chacin takes the mound for the Red Sox. While known for mainly being a starter, Chacin is acting as the opener in the start of back to back bullpen games to begin the Yankees series. In 2018 as a Brewer, Chacin had a solid season as he started 35 games and posted a 3.50 ERA.

This season in Milwaukee, however, has ended up being his worst season yet. Starting 19 games, he has struggled with a 5.79 ERA. Another troubling stat is that he has already served up 19 longballs in 88.2 innings. Debuting in 2009, he has allowed 20 HRs in a season, just ONCE.

Tied for MLB lead in wins with 17, Domingo German takes the ball for the Yankees. Along with Verlander & Rodriguez, German is vying to end the season eclipsing the 20 Win plateau. In the month of August, he went 4-1 with a 3.82 ERA in six starts. But something that could be making Sox batter’s eyebrows go up, is the recent HR trend. German allowed 10 HRs in those six starts. And the last two months, has given up 17 of them. Good pitcher, but one that the Sox can take full advantage of.
