As the Patriots “Quest for 7” season kicks off tonight, the Sox’s playoff aspirations are slipping away. The bullpen didn’t have the same impact as they did on Friday, and Happ once again dominated the Red Sox offense. End result is a 7 game deficit, with 20 games remaining.

Rick Porcello takes the mound for the Red Sox. With about four starts left of being a Red Sox (unless re-signed), he is still looking to end the season on a respectable note. He had a 4.00 ERA in the month of August…. then kicked off the month of September with an absolute dud. Facing the Twins, they got to him hard for 6 ER in just four innings. That start was his SEVENTH time this season of giving up 6 Runs or more. Last year, that happened just three times.

Looking to exorcise his demons of facing the Sox, Masahiro Tanaka takes the ball for the Yankees. This is just his third time facing the Sox in 2019. His prior two starts, the closest similarity would be a high school coach tossing HR Derby pitches.

2 starts – (0-1, 40.50 ERA)

4 innings, 16 Hits, 18 Runs, 3 HRs, 4 Ks, 5 Walks

After allowing just 2 ER in his last 13 innings pitched, he has lowered his season ERA to 4.42. This is the lowest it has been since his July 20th start vs the Rockies. After that Rockies start, it would spike up immensely with the Sox straight up obliterating him for 12 ER in 3.1 innings.

First Pitch – 8:05pm ET !!!
