*** I make my return to doing matchups. Had myself a week away from the computer, as my wife & I welcomed a beautiful baby girl to this world.

There are just eight games left remaining for the disappointing 2019 season. The Sox stand at 80-74 as they try to play the role of spoiler to the Rays. The first two games of the series hasn’t gone as planned, with both losses being of the walkoff variety. Yes last night stunk as another blown save occurred…. But it was a bullpen game where the multitude of relievers allowed just three runs until gas can 5.90 ERA Josh Smith took the mound.

Nathan Eovaldi takes the mound for the Red Sox. His ERA again shot up above the 6.00 mark, with the Giants getting to him for 5 ER in just four innings. Eovaldi has made ten starts thus far…. just five of them has seen him reach five innings. With two starts left for him, he looks to finish on a strong note before getting ready for a bounce back 2020 campaign.

Ryan Yarbrough takes the ball for the Rays, as they strive to lock up a Wild Card spot. Currently holding the 2nd spot (2.0 games behind Oakland), they hold just a one game advantage over Cleveland. For the yr, Yarbrough is 11-4  with a 3.78 ERA across 26 games (12 starts). In his second season in the bigs, he has already made strides in improving walk and hit rates. The 2018 season saw him walking 50 in 147.1 innings and allowing an opp .246 avg. This season? He has walked just 17 batters in 133.1 innings, while having an opp avg of just .219.
