According to a few reports, the Red Sox have made their first free agent signing this week in Jose Peraza. Peraza was non-tendered by the Reds at the beginning of the offseason after the infielder had a tough year at the plate.
The Red Sox need some depth in the infield and this move provides just that. But, this signing likely means the chances the team brings back fan favorite Brock Holt are slim to none.
Peraza has experience playing all over the field. In 2019, he spent a majority of his time playing second base and shortstop, but also spent some time in the outfield. The Red Sox will most likely try out several guys at second base during spring training including Marco Hernandez, Michael Chavis, Tzu-Wei Lin, Jonathan Arauz, and Peraza.
