The Red Sox have signed their fifth starter.
According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Red Sox have an agreement with starter Martin Perez on a one-year deal. Rosenthal reports that the deal is worth $6 million for one year which includes a club option for 2021. Over Perez’s last 29 starts, he has went 10-7 with a 5.12 ERA. In his career, he has a 4.72 ERA.
Another move that I was not anticipating at all. I would have rather prefered a right-hander to add to the current rotation that looks like: Chris Sale, David Price, Eduardo Rodriguez, Nathan Eovaldi, and now Martin Perez.
Like the Peraza signing, this doesn’t look great on paper looking at the previous season of Perez, but has potential upside. I really hope Chaim Bloom is seeing something that I am not.
