The Red Sox have their manager for the 2020 season.
This afternoon in Fort Myers, the Red Sox announced the team will name bench coach Ron Roenicke the interim manager for the 2020 season.
During the press conference the team held today, Chaim Bloom explained the team used the “interim” tag on Roenicke’s hiring out of respect to the ongoing MLB investigation on the Red Sox sign-stealing allegations. Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reported that the interim tag could possibly be removed once the MLB completes the investigation on the Red Sox.
The new Red Sox skipper was the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers from 2011-2015 and the third base coach for the Angels for two seasons before coming on the Red Sox staff with Alex Cora in 2017.
The hire comes a day before the first official workout for pitchers and catchers.
